How To Charge A Lawn Mower Battery

So you just got that brand new battery-powered lawn mower that you and your lawn have been aching for. But the real question is How do you charge the battery?
Usually, when buying a new lawn mower, it is recommended to fully charge your battery before use. It is CRUCIAL for the battery of your lawnmower to be completely charged before use. Follow the steps below to figure out how!
How To Charge A Lawn Mower Battery
Step 1: Take Precautions
Make sure you wear safety goggles and durable work gloves when charging your lawn mower battery just in case of any electrical mishaps. Also, make sure you know what your lawn mower needs.
If the lawn mower is unexpectedly dead, that means you left the ignition on accidentally and thus it needs to be fully charged before using it again.
Step 2: Choose The Right Charger
Most battery-powered lawn mower models use 12V batteries. Then some other mowers that were modeled before the 1980s use a 6V battery. Use a charger that matches the voltage of your lawn mower.
Keep in mind that you have to use a charger with an output of 10 amps or less because charging a battery with an output of a charger that is more than 10 amps can cause damage to your mower’s battery.
Step 3: Find the Battery
Start by disconnecting your mower’s charger from the power outlet. Usual lawn mower batteries are found under the seat, so lift the seat, and you will then find the positive battery terminal and the negative battery terminal.
Step 4: Connect the Cables
On your charger, there are two cables. A red charger cable which is for the positive battery terminal and a black charger cable which is for the negative battery terminal. Connect the charger to their respected cables.
Step 5: Let It Charge
After connecting the charger cables to their terminals, set the battery charger to the setting best for your lawn mower (or the usual 12V) and 10 amps or less.
With the 10 amp setting, the charger will be able to fully charge your lawn mower’s battery in an hour. With a lower amp setting, it can take longer for the battery to charge completely.
Step 6:Disconnect the Charger
Some lawn mower chargers shut off automatically when the battery is fully charged. Other mowers have a green LED indicator to show that the battery is charged efficiently.
Once you see that your charger indicates that the battery has reached a full charge, unplug the charger and disconnect the charger cables from the terminals.
If you have followed the steps above correctly, you should be looking at a fully charged and fully functioning battery-powered lawnmower.
